Discovery Lecture to feature Nabel
Elizabeth (Betsy) Nabel, M.D., director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health, will deliver the next Discovery Lecture on Oct. 22.
Nabel's lecture, “Genomic Medicine: Cardiovascular Insights from a Premature Aging Syndrome,” will be at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
A member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, Nabel is known for her basic and clinical research on the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease.
Her laboratory at the NIH is investigating the role of cell cycle proteins in regulating vascular development and vascular repair, as well as the contribution of genetic factors to proliferative and inflammatory diseases in blood vessels, including common diseases like atherosclerosis and the rare, premature aging in Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome.
Nabel's lecture is sponsored by Vanderbilt's Medical Scientist Training Program.
