Dittus inducted into Association of American Physicians
“I’m very honored to be joining the AAP, an organization with such a long and esteemed tradition, devoted as it is to the advancement of knowledge, science and clinical medicine,” Dittus said.
“I congratulate Bob on this major new recognition for his achievements as a clinician-scientist. This is a very welcome distinction and Vanderbilt can’t help but be proud,” said Jeff Balser, M.D., Ph.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, who was himself inducted into the AAP in 2007.
Dittus is assistant vice chancellor for Public Health and associate dean for Population Health Sciences; he directs the Division of Internal Medicine and Public Health, the Institute for Medicine and Public Health and the Center for Health Services Research.
He also directs programs at the Veterans Administration Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, including the Quality Scholars Program and the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center.
The AAP was established in 1885 for “the advancement of scientific and practical medicine.” The association includes some 1,000 active members and 600 emeritus members.
Members are recognized for their pursuit of medical knowledge and for their advancement, through experimentation and discovery, of basic and clinical science and their application to clinical medicine.
With Dittus’ election, the AAP now includes 25 current members from among the VUMC faculty, and 10 emeritus members.
