The VUMC Safety Fair will be held Sept. 26-28 and Oct. 1-2 in the Learning Center, S-2435 MCN (The Roundwing).

All VUMC staff are required to attend the safety fair. Personnel not required include anyone who attended the Spring 2001 Safety Fair; new employees who completed Hearts and Minds orientation within the past nine months; and employees who completed annual safety training requirements on their unit/department.

Universal safety training is recommended for all VUMC staff. This training includes ergonomic awareness, hazard communication awareness, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and personal safety.

Research laboratory safety training is recommended for staff working in these areas. This training includes all the components of the universal safety training, as well as chemical safety in the laboratory, laboratory-specific bloodborne pathogens, and handling and disposal of hazardous waste.

Advanced training is also recommended for staff who have contact with patients and/or body fluids. This training includes infection control, TB precautions, latex allergy awareness, Sharps safety devices, and glutaraldehyde/cidex.

Staff are asked to check with their supervisor to determine which training is required for specific departments.

The safety fair is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Clinical stations offering point of care testing, mock code, advanced airway, and defibrillation training are open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
