With the recent announcement that a multi-year, multi-phase expansion will begin on the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital this fall, the facility will be positioned for strategic growth as inpatient bed space and services are increased.

The $30 million first-phase expansion to the hospital's northwest corner will add 33 new inpatient beds and will serve as a catalyst to further engage the community and region to partner with the Department of Pediatrics and Children's Hospital to improve child health care throughout Middle Tennessee.

In concert with this growth, Luke Gregory, assistant vice chancellor for Health Affairs and chief business development officer for VUMC, will assume an expanded role seeking new business development opportunities for Children's Hospital. Gregory will devote much of his time to the mission of maternal/child care and will have an office in the Department of Pediatrics Administration.

“In addition to my other responsibilities, I look forward to working with the Pediatric and Children's Hospital leadership to further the objectives of our mission of maternal and child health in the community,” Gregory said.

Gregory oversees the Office of Business Development, which works to identify outreach opportunities to advance the clinical enterprise and achieve the University's mission of being an active resource for the greater community.

“We are pleased Luke is willing to devote a greater portion of his time to developing the pediatric enterprise in conjunction with the growth of these facilities,” said C. Wright Pinson, M.D., MBA, deputy vice chancellor for Health Affairs.

Recent growth examples overseen by the Office of Business Development include Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks, the acquisition of Vanderbilt Bone and Joint in Franklin and the expansion of Vanderbilt Home Care to include IV home infusion services.
