Hospital CEO Goldberg named to top post at Loyola Health Systems
Larry Goldberg, chief executive officer of Vanderbilt University Hospital, is leaving Vanderbilt after six eventful years to become president and chief executive officer for the Loyola University Health System in Maywood, Ill. His appointment at Loyola begins in October.
“During these years of growth and change at the Medical Center, Larry’s expertise, hard work and dedication to our mission have made him an integral member of our leadership team,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, M.D., deputy vice chancellor for Health Affairs and CEO of the Vanderbilt Health System.
“It’s been a pleasure working with him. We will miss Larry and we wish him the best in this new role with Loyola.”
Since his arrival in June 2005, VUH annual discharges have risen 28 percent, to 35,813, and annual outpatient surgical operations have increased 42 percent, to 11,122.
The construction and opening in November 2009 of the 11-story VUH Critical Care Tower perhaps looms as a principal milestone during Goldberg’s tenure at Vanderbilt.
“As we advance our mission to provide the very highest caliber of care for our patients while navigating the ongoing challenges within health care, Larry’s insight, steady judgment and good humor have been an asset to us all. We wish him well in this new role,” said Jeff Balser, M.D., Ph.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs and dean of the School of Medicine.
“I have had a wonderful experience at Vanderbilt. I’m really proud to have been a part of this organization and hope that I have contributed,” said Goldberg.
“I’m sad to leave Vanderbilt, but have been presented with a great opportunity to advance my career. This organization will continue to do great things and I will be proud each time I see Vanderbilt’s name out there on the national stage. I really want to thank the management teams of VUH and VPH (Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital) for their support and leadership through the years, and want to thank the University, Dr. Pinson and Dr. Balser for the opportunity be a part of their leadership team."
Goldberg already knows Chicago, having come to Vanderbilt from Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Before joining Northwestern in 1998, Goldberg spent several years in New York in the health care consulting practices of Deloitte & Touche and Ernst & Young.
Loyola University Health System, a member of Trinity Health, is a quaternary care system located in Maywood, Ill, outside of Chicago. It includes a 61-acre main medical center campus, the 36-acre Gottlieb Memorial Hospital campus and 22 primary and specialty care facilities.
The heart of the medical center campus, Loyola University Hospital, is a 569-licensed-bed facility. It houses a Level 1 trauma center, a burn center and the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center.
