Steve Hyman, M.D., has been named medical director of Medical Center East operating rooms at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Hyman, an associate professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, has been affiliated with Vanderbilt since 1979.
Hyman's previous appointments at VUMC include more than four years as the associate medical director of the Neurological Care Unit.
In addition to his appointments at VUMC, Hyman is the former chief of anesthesia for Nashville's Miller Medical Group and Edgefield Hospital, where he held concurrent medical staff leadership positions in ambulatory surgery, respiratory therapy and intensive care.
Hyman was also chief of anesthesiology and pain management at Nashville Memorial Hospital for more than two years and has served as a staff anesthesiologist at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville and NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield, Tenn.
An accomplished pianist since early childhood, Hyman practiced medicine part time after 1999 in order to pursue a Master of Music degree.
He graduated from Nashville's Belmont University School of Music in April 2004 and resumes the full-time practice of medicine at VUMC with this appointment.
