Mercado takes up financial reins of Radiation Oncology

Eduardo Mercado

Eduardo (Ed) Mercado has joined the Vanderbilt Cancer Center as vice chairman for administration and chief financial officer in the recently established department of Radiation Oncology.

He will be responsible for the financial management of the department's inpatient, outpatient and professional services. He will also oversee the establishment of new clinic space.

Mercado comes to Vanderbilt from Tampa, Fla., where he was executive director of Cornerstone and Bardmoor Cancer Centers, a state-of-the-art radiation oncology center that is one of the busiest in central Florida. Prior to that position, Mercado served as manager of the general and vascular surgery department of a multi-specialty medical group in Lakeland, Fla.

He is president-elect of the Society of Radiation Oncology Administrators and treasurer/committee chair for the SROA's Economics and Reimbursement Committee. He is also a nominee of the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a member of the Medical Group Managers Association.

Mercado, who holds an M.B.A. from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla., is a former officer in the U.S. Army and currently serves as major in the U.S. Army Individual Ready Reserves.
