New spaces, garage highlight parking upgrades

Vanderbilt's parking options continue to expand.

In all, 360 new employee parking spaces were opened Jan. 15.

The new spaces form a southward expansion (toward Blakemore Avenue) of the “shuttle lots.” At $45 per year, the shuttle lots are the most economical campus parking option for Vanderbilt employees. Other parking developments include:

• A new parking garage linking the East Garage and The Vanderbilt Clinic Garage is scheduled to open by Monday, Feb. 6, adding 150 new spaces for patients and visitors. The combined structure will be known as East Garage.

• The 25th Avenue/Highland Avenue garage (located across from the VA Medical Center) was recently renamed Central Garage, following the naming system used for the East and South garages.

• Campus public parking locations were modified effective Jan. 31, when public spaces in Central Garage were relocated to surface lot 73. The lot is located at the north tip of the shuttle lots, near the corner of Natchez Trace and Vanderbilt Place, across from the stadium. The cost is unchanged at $5 per day. The public can also park for $7.75 a day in an area of the South Garage near the staff exit to Children's Way. Patients and their visitors park for free at Vanderbilt, but vendors, prospective employees, prospective students and all other members of the public pay to park on campus.

• The 22nd Avenue entrance to the East Garage is being moved slightly southward to improve traffic flow and increase the staging area for valet parking. An additional exit from East Garage will open in mid February behind the Medical Arts Building.
