Applications are being taken for American Cancer Society International Research Grants (IRG) designed to provide "seed" money for junior faculty members with an interest in cancer research.

The grant is intended for researchers with no national grant support of their own. Previous recipients of IRG awards are not eligible.

Faculty members with an interest in the psychosocial and behavioral aspects of cancer, as well as biomedical research, are encouraged to apply.

Funds are available to all schools of Vanderbilt University.

The awards, which are limited to a maximum of $20,000 per individual researcher, are for the period July 1, 1998-June 30, 1999.

Deadline for application submission is March 30, and awards will be announced in May.

HEALTH Plus is presenting a special lecture exploring how we see ourselves.

David G. Schlundt, Ph.D., associate professor of Psychology, will present "Body Image" on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at noon in Light Hall, room 512. Attendees will learn how body image develops, why people feel the need to be thin and how this can lead to dissatisfaction, dieting, eating disorders and low self-esteem.
