Nominations sought for new VUSN faculty recognition award

The Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is seeking nominations for the Hassenplug Recognition Award, a newly created faculty recognition award.

Established by the VUSN class of 1942, the award serves as a memorial to Lulu K. Wolf Hassenplug (1903-1995), who served on the VUSN faculty from 1938-1948, and who was the founding dean of the UCLA School of Nursing.

Eligible for the award are VUSN emeriti, or past or present tenure or tenure track Nursing School faculty who demonstrate the "Lulu K. Spirit" ‹ which includes serving as an educational crusader, creative thinker and nurse pioneer, according to the award criteria. Nominations for the Hassenplug Recognition Award may be made by anyone ‹ faculty, students, alumni, colleagues or friends.

Nominations must include a statement that speaks to the criteria, the nominee's curriculum vitae and at least four letters of support, two of which must come from within Vanderbilt.

An award committee of faculty, students and alumni will review all nominations. The recipient of the Hassenplug Recognition Award will be announced during Reunion Weekend in May, and will receive a recognition citation, a monetary supplement and the Hassenplug Silver Medallion.
