Local physicians will use their surgical skills as they turn ordinary pumpkins into a works of art as part of “Operation Pumpkin,” a fund-raiser for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Arnold Strauss, James C. Overall Professor and Chair of Pediatrics and director of Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, will join other doctors from Vanderbilt and from the surrounding area to carve pumpkins at the Mall at Green Hills on Saturday, Oct. 27.

“I encourage everyone in the community to come watch and purchase their favorite pumpkin,” Strauss said. “It’s a great way to spend time as a family and to help Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. I’m really looking forward to the event. It should be a lot of fun.”

Physicians will carve pumpkins from 9 a.m. to noon in the West Court of the Mall and will personally sign each creation. The pumpkins will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can be purchased for $25. There will be children’s activities during the day (face painting, games, etc.), and children can also decorate small pumpkins that will be given to the patients at VCH as Halloween favors.

For more information or to sign up to carve, contact VCH Development at 322-7450.
