Pressure ulcer panel lauds Benoit

Richard Benoit, M.S.N., R.N., nurse educator in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, is the recipient of the 2009 Roberta S. Abruzzese Award presented at the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel meeting, held this year in Washington, D.C.

This award provides biennial conference travel funds to a student showing interest and promise in the field of pressure ulcer research, treatment and prevention or education.

Benoit is currently enrolled as a doctoral student in Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and plans to conduct research on enhancing preventive strategies to decrease the incidence of pressure ulcer development in critically ill patients.

“Richard is an asset to the staff and patients of the Surgical ICU and Vanderbilt Medical Center. I am proud to work with him and follow the example that he sets,” said Michael Daly, M.S.N., R.N., Surgical ICU manager.

Sponsored by Gaymar Industries Inc., the award is named in honor of Abruzzese for her vision, leadership and support in promoting educational endeavors in relation to pressure ulcer management.
