Program takes on cancer’s side effects
Breast cancer treatments can wreak havoc on a patient's hair and skin and some of those patients feel self-conscious about the change in their appearance.
Now breast cancer patients are invited to a free counseling session designed to help them cope with cancer treatment side-effects like hair loss and complexion changes.
The Vanderbilt Breast Center's “Look Good…Feel Better” class will be held Wednesday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks.
A Hawaiian luau is the theme for the American Cancer Society-sponsored seminar, which includes a light lunch.
During the two-hour class, participants learn how to draw their own eyebrows and apply makeup to give an impression of eyelashes.
They receive tips on dealing with dry skin caused by radiation and chemotherapy. They also learn how to cover their heads and stay warm in stylish and inexpensive ways.
Each woman is given a free goody bag filled with brand-name cosmetics and other products.
