Radiology vice chairs named
Steven Meranze, M.D.
Steven Meranze, M.D., and Marta Hernanz-Schulman, M.D., have been named vice chairs of the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences.
The position was formerly held by Jeremy Kaye, M.D., who was named chair of the department in March.
“They both have proven leadership records here at Vanderbilt,” Kaye said. “They both have strong interests in academic radiology and commitments to Vanderbilt, the department and the Medical Center.”
A specialist in vascular and interventional radiology, Meranze will serve as vice chair of Radiology for the adult hospital and clinics. Hernanz-Schulman, a pediatric radiologist, will serve as vice chair of Radiology at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Meranze, professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Surgery and Urology and director of Interventional Radiology, earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Radiology and a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he then served on the faculty.
He joined the VUMC faculty in 1992.
Hernanz-Schulman, professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Pediatrics and chief of Pediatric Radiology, has served as medical director of Diagnostic Imaging at Children's Hospital. She earned her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine.
Before coming to Vanderbilt in 1988, she completed residencies in Pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, in Radiology at Boston University and further training in Pediatric Radiology at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and currently serves as president of the Society for Pediatric Radiology.
