Schorn named assistant dean for Academics at VUSN
Mavis Schorn, Ph.D., C.N.M., has been named assistant dean for Academics at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.
She will also continue to serve as program director for VUSN's Nurse-Midwifery Program, one of the school's largest specialty tracks.

In this newly created role, Schorn will assist senior associate dean Linda Norman, D.S.N., R.N., with coordination and implementation of an increasing amount of academic initiatives that require collaboration with other schools and programs within Vanderbilt and across the health care community.
“With the School of Nursing's growth over the past five years, including having four degree programs and more than 800 students, the academic and administrative needs have also increased,” said Norman. “Mavis will ensure we have consistent coordination so we can make the most of our many opportunities.”
Among other projects, Schorn will deepen her involvement with the Vanderbilt University Global Health Initiative as well as with the Interprofessional Learning Fellowship program that educates nursing, medical, pharmacy and social work students side by side.
“Mavis has a track record of successful collaborations and accomplishing objectives,” Norman said. “She is well respected by her peers and is the ideal person for this position.”
Schorn has headed the VUSN Nurse-Midwifery program since 2006 and been in clinical practice since 1990.
