Survey gauges satisfaction of VUMC nurses

The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators Satisfaction Survey is under way and the June 25 deadline is approaching.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center encourages each of its 2,200 nurses to participate in the online survey of nursing staffs from more than 170 hospitals across the nation.

Last year, 71 percent of the nursing staff participated. Results showed that VUMC nurses have a high satisfaction rate compared with most hospitals, a big advantage in pursuing Magnet Recognition.

This year, VUMC administrators have set a goal of 75 percent participation. The survey has a few more questions to provide a higher level of detail and information. It takes about 30 minutes to complete and is completely confidential.

Questions cover topics such as nursing competence, job satisfaction, autonomy, decision making, nursing management and job enjoyment. Answers are kept confidential and can be filled out at any work station on the unit, clinic or home computer.
