Women’s basketball team hosts cancer event

The Vanderbilt Com-modores women's basketball team will hold the annual Pink Out! fundraising event for breast cancer research during the game versus the University of Georgia at noon on Sunday, Feb. 15.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to emphasize the need for breast cancer research. Several other universities around the country, including Belmont University in Nashville, are participating in the annual event.

Proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, which supports breast cancer research at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Tickets are $10.

Belmont University also will be donating some of the proceeds from its Feb. 15 game to Vanderbilt-Ingram if more than 2,000 fans attend. Tickets for that game are $5.

There will be a Pretty in Pink fashion show, drawings for a pink iPod, a pink coach wristlet and a basketball signed by the Belmont women's basketball team. Breast cancer survivors will be recognized and honored during both the Vanderbilt and Belmont games.
