World Health Week events set
Experiences of Nashville's refugees, medical “ethnomusicology,” and health and social justice in post-earthquake Haiti will be discussed during “World Health Week at Vanderbilt” March 19-24.
The series of discussions and gatherings is sponsored by the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH) and by several student-run organizations including the Global Health Committee, the VIGH Student Advisory Committee, Vanderbilt International Connections, the Vanderbilt chapter of Universities Allied for Essential Medicines and the Health Justice Council.

• Monday, March 19 — “Medical/Legal Dimensions of Post-Conflict Transitions,” noon lecture by Michael Newton, J.D., professor of the Practice of Law, Vanderbilt Law School, in 208 Light Hall;
• Tuesday, March 20 — Interdisciplinary mixer and potluck, 6 to 8 p.m. in the Centennial Perk conference room on the 8th floor of the 2525 West End Ave. building;
• Wednesday, March 21 — “Experiences of Nashville’s Refugees,” noon lecture by Amy Richardson, MPH, program manager, VIGH Community Health Initiatives, in 208 Light Hall;
• Thursday, March 22 — “Cancer Prevention in Central America,” noon lecture by Douglas Morgan, M.D., MPH, associate professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt, in 208 Light Hall;
• Friday, March 23 — “Medical Ethnomusicology as Collaborative Practice,” noon lecture by Gregory Barz, Ph.D., associate professor of Ethnomusicology at Vanderbilt, in 208 Light Hall; and
• Friday, March 23 — “Health, Social Justice and Haiti after the Earthquake,” 4:30 p.m. lecture by Harvard physician Joia Mukherjee, M.D., MPH, medical director of Partners in Health, in 208 Light Hall. A reception will follow in the Light Hall north lobby.
On Saturday, March 24, the Paragon Mills Health Fair, which serves Nashville’s refugee population, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Paragon Mills Elementary School, 260 Paragon Mills Road in Nashville.
