VUMC’s Were, Sengstack, Stead honored by ACMI

Vanderbilt’s Martin Were, MD, MS, and Patricia Sengstack, DNP, RN-BC, have been elected to the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI). William Stead, MD, has been named a Distinguished Fellows of ACMI.

Special ceremonies celebrate students who graduated last year

On Sunday, May 2, the Class of 2020 of Vanderbilt University Schools of Medicine and Nursing and the Graduate School held in-person commencement ceremonies for students earning degrees. While the classes participated in virtual ceremonies last year, many opted to return to campus to celebrate with friends, family and faculty.

Sean Collins, MD, MSci, Deonni Stolldorf, PhD, RN, and colleagues are helping other health systems implement a self-care intervention for acute heart failure patients.

Kate Payne, Vanderbilt bioethicist and nurse, has died

Associate Professor of Nursing Kate Payne, JD, RN, NC-BC, a bioethicist, attorney and beloved nurse leader at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, died at the Alive Hospice Residence on Jan. 6 after a very brief and unexpected illness.

VUSN lands grant to increase diversity in health care providers

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing has launched a scholarship program for family nurse practitioner, nurse-midwifery and dual nurse-midwifery/FNP master’s students that aims to increase diversity in primary health care providers, particularly in medically underserved areas.
