“Simple Beginnings” is Vanderbilt University’s annual ceremony that welcomes each new class of doctoral students in the biomedical and biological sciences.

MEGAMicrobe, a free exploration of the world of microbes, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Gower Elementary School.

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine recently welcomed 96 first-year students during its annual White Coat Ceremony, marking the students’ journeys to becoming physicians and physician-scientists.

Since the Aspirnaut high school summer research internship program was launched in 2009, 334 students from 34 states have participated. To date, nearly 90 of them have gone to earn MD degrees, PhDs, or both.
