Faculty, staff invited to preview new VanderbiltHealth.com

Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s website for health care consumers –VanderbiltHealth.com – has had a makeover, and Vanderbilt faculty and staff are invited to be among the first to preview the new site before its release.

The site was developed using “data-driven design,” which incorporates input and insights from Google analytics of the site’s traffic, focus groups, surveys and usability studies.

More than a facelift, the redesign reflects a larger strategy for developing a family of online properties that meet specific purposes for specific audiences, and work together in a coordinated way, said Betsy Brandes, director of web development and creative services for VUMC.

A key driver in the design is meeting the needs of users who are increasingly strapped for time and and attention.

“Research suggests we have about 5 seconds to capture our visitors’ attention and get them where they want and need to go before they leave the site and look elsewhere,” she explained. “It is more important than ever before to design our online properties with the interests and needs of the user as the highest priority.”

The redesign offers streamlined content and features based on the most important tasks that users want to perform on the site. It also uses colors and design elements that align it with the visual identity of Vanderbilt University.
