Laveil Allen, MD, assistant professor of Clinical Radiology and Radiological Sciences and assistant program director for the diagnostic radiology residency program, has been named executive medical director of the Imaging Clinical Service Center, effective May 1.

Allen will succeed Jake Block, MD, associate professor of Radiology, who previously served in the role. Allen will continue serving as section chief of Emergency Radiology in addition to his new position.

“I look forward to positively impacting the patient experience in this role by advancing existing efforts to improve operational efficiency,” Allen said. “I also look forward to serving as a radiology liaison to identify new solutions to complex problems within our hospital system. Dr. Block has done a phenomenal job during his tenure as executive medical director, and I am keenly excited to build upon our existing foundation to drive excellence and advance exemplary practices in our delivery of care to patients.”

As chief of Emergency Radiology, Allen has worked collaboratively with clinical leadership across multiple disciplines at VUMC, developing strategic initiatives between Emergency Radiology, Emergency Medicine and Trauma Surgery to achieve improved clinical care, efficiency and outcomes in the acute care setting. He will continue building on this work while also advocating for improved equitable health care access and education in underserved communities in his new role.

“We thank Dr. Block for his leadership and welcome Dr. Allen into this vital role,” said Reed Omary, MD, MS, Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and chair of Radiology. “Dr. Allen’s caring spirit shines through in his commitment to serving patients, their families and our referring clinicians, as well as educating trainees across the Medical Center.”
