Cumberland University is partnering with Vanderbilt University Medical Center to offer a new scholarship opportunity for up to 20 Cumberland students each year who are pursuing degrees in nursing.

The VUMC Nursing Scholars Program will support Cumberland University students as they pursue their degrees while providing a pathway for these emerging health care professionals to serve at VUMC after graduation. This program will provide support to students for tuition, room and board, books and additional fees.

“The Rudy School and Vanderbilt have a proud history of partnering together in training health care professionals and expanding health care facilities,” said Mary Bess Griffith, PhD, dean of the Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing and Health Professions. “This latest relationship represents yet another innovative way that Cumberland is working with partners to increase financial support for the future nurses of Middle Tennessee and beyond.”

Over the coming years, the VUMC Nursing Scholars Program will provide support to many of Cumberland’s most talented nursing students. After graduating and successfully completing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), these Cumberland nursing graduates will have a seamless pathway to employment at VUMC.

This past year, the Jeannette C. Rudy School of Nursing and Health Professions ranked first in Tennessee in terms of NCLEX passage rates. The school’s graduates achieved a 100% NCLEX pass rate in 2021. Cumberland has 100% job placement for nursing graduates with approximately 96% of those graduates serving in Middle Tennessee.

Additionally, Cumberland offers exclusive academic resources to nursing students including access to an on-campus Living and Learning Community. Last year, the university opened a new facility that includes classroom space and three simulation labs with state-of-the-art mannequins and equipment. This new facility enhances the student experience while developing clinical skills.
