Lab transformation FAQs, part 2

What tests will now be performed at the new MetroCenter location?

Most laboratory tests that are not needed for immediate clinical care of patients will be performed at the new lab facility. These include:

  • Core chemistry, coagulation, hematology, and urinalysis for ambulatory patients
  • Cytogenetics (moving from One Hundred Oaks)
  • Esoteric coagulation
  • Genomics (moving from One Hundred Oaks)
  • Hematopathology
  • Infectious diseases (microbiology, virology and molecular infectious disease lab)
  • Molecular diagnostics
  • Special chemistry and toxicology
  • Anatomic pathology

o    Grossing

o    Histology

o    Surgical pathology

o    Cytology prep

What tests will continue to be performed at the main 21st Ave. campus (TVC)?

Tests most needed for hospitalized patients who are hospitalized, or those patients in our emergency departments or operating rooms, will continue to be performed on the main 21st Ave. campus. These include:

  • Blood Bank
  • Core chemistry, coagulation, hematology, and urinalysis
  • Cytology: rapid onsite adequacy evaluations (rose) & fine needle aspirations (FNA)
  • Frozen sections
  • Point-of-care testing
  • Select other tests
