Sunil Kripalani, MD, MSc, Vice President for Health System Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named to a three-year term on the National Advisory Council of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
The Council, which consists of 20 members from the private sector, and ex-officio members from seven federal agencies, helps guide national priorities for health services research that promotes improvements in the quality, safety and efficiency of clinical practice, and which provides equitable access to health care.
“I am honored to serve AHRQ in this capacity and look forward to advising its continued investments in learning health systems, digital healthcare, patient safety, equity, and other areas essential for high-quality health care,” Kripalani said.
“Dr. Kripalani is nationally recognized for his work in health services research and implementation science, and we are honored for him to serve on the AHRQ National Advisory Council.” said Russell Rothman, MD, MPP, VUMC Senior Vice President for Population and Public Health.
“AHRQ remains a critical federal agency for research funding to improve health care delivery and health care quality,” said Rothman, Ingram Professor of Integrative and Population Health, and director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Medicine and Public Health (IMPH).
Kripalani is professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health, Section of Hospital Medicine. His research focuses primarily on transitions of care for hospital patients, health literacy, social determinants of health and medication safety.
In addition to his service as VUMC Vice President for Health System Sciences, Kripalani directs the Vanderbilt Center for Health Services Research and the Center for Clinical Quality and Implementation Research.
The centers support a broad portfolio of research and training programs that seek to improve health care delivery and health outcomes by optimizing quality, value, equity and patient-centered care.
