Saturday, Sept. 21, was a busy day for volunteer events supporting good causes, with both the Shade Tree Trot and Greater Nashville Heart Walk taking place.

The Shade Tree Trot was held at Percy Warner Park. The 5K race, organized by Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and School of Nursing students, raises funds for the Shade Tree Clinic, the free student-run medical clinic for the underserved population of Nashville.

The Greater Nashville Heart Walk, meanwhile, raised more than $1.5 million in its fight against heart disease and stroke as well as provide funding for public and professional education and community service programs. Of that, more than $100,000 was raised from teams from VUMC. The event was at Geodis Park. Donations are still being accepted at NashvilleHeartWalk.org.
