Vanderbilt Health has received accreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Adult Congenital Transthoracic Echocardiography, joining a select group of organizations.
According to the IAC, Vanderbilt Health is the eighth IAC Adult Echocardiography-accredited facility in the United States to achieve Adult Congenital Transthoracic Echocardiography accreditation — and the first in Tennessee.
The program recognizes “the critical role of facilities providing care to patients with congenital heart disease who transition their care from pediatric cardiology to adult cardiology services,” according to the IAC.
The IAC, a nationally recognized accrediting organization, was founded by medical professionals to advance appropriate utilization, standardization and quality of diagnostic imaging, interventional and therapeutic procedures. The IAC programs for accreditation are dedicated to quality improvement and patient safety.
“Providing state of the art, patient-centered echocardiography services is an essential component of high-quality care for those living with congenital heart disease,” said Angela Weingarten, MD, assistant professor of Medicine and Pediatrics.
Weingarten co-directs the Section of Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine along with Benjamin Frischhertz, MD, assistant professor of Medicine and Pediatrics.
“This recognition is further testament to Vanderbilt Health’s deep commitment to provide exceptional care to patients living with congenital heart disease,” Weingarten said.
