Eunice Huang, MD, MS, Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, was elected a member of the American Surgical Association at the organizations’ s 146th annual meeting. She will officially be inducted at the 2027 annual meeting.

Founded in 1880, ASA is the oldest and most prestigious academic surgical organization, with a mission to provide a national forum for presenting the developing state of the art and science of general and subspecialty surgery and the elevation of the standards of the medical/surgical profession.

“The ASA represents the highest level of surgical science and scholarship, and its contributions have shaped the practice of surgery for generations,” said Huang, Professor of Pediatric Surgery. “I am honored to be a part of this distinguished community and excited to contribute to its mission while learning from colleagues whose work continues to advance the field.”

A national leader in surgical quality, outcomes research and education, Huang leads the Pediatric Surgery Research Collaborative, a multi-institutional research network that has shaped clinical practice through National Institutes of Health-funded studies. She also serves on the council for the American Board of Surgery and is a governor for the American Pediatric Surgical Association.

Huang has many roles at Vanderbilt Health, including Chief Surgical Quality and Innovations Officer; Vice Chair for Surgical Quality and Patient Safety for the Section of Surgical Sciences; and newly elected member of the Faculty Senate. She joined Vanderbilt in 2020.

In her work, she focuses on streamlining and standardizing processes to ensure that high-quality, cost-effective and efficient care is achieved when treating some of the most common pediatric surgical conditions, including appendicitis, inguinal hernia and necrotizing enterocolitis.

Board-certified in clinical informatics, she works with engineers, software developers, informaticists and others to fine-tune these processes to ensure quality care and increased patient satisfaction.
