Adults with self-perceived hearing loss who either plan to purchase hearing aids or ear buds used for amplification in the next six months, or those who have purchased hearing aids or ear buds used for amplification within the last six weeks, will report about how they choose between over-the-counter hearing instruments and those prescribed by a hearing professional. One in-person visit is strongly encouraged but not required one month after beginning hearing aid use. Follow-ups at six and 12 months after beginning hearing aid use consist of questionnaires and may be completed remotely.
Total compensation will range between $225 and $295. This is a joint project between Vanderbilt Health and the University of Iowa.
