Daniel Muñoz, MD, MPA, Executive Medical Director of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute, has been selected as President-Elect of the American Heart Association (AHA) Southeast Board of Directors.
Muñoz is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt Health. His research interests have focused on leveraging pragmatic clinical trials to identify and implement innovative strategies for lowering cardiovascular risk and improving patient outcomes in both high-risk primary prevention and secondary prevention settings.
Muñoz has served as a member of the AHA’s Greater Nashville Board, including a two-year term as president from 2021-2023. At the national level, he currently serves as a member of the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Joint Committee on Clinical Practice Guidelines.
Muñoz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a B.A. in economics. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and additionally holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He completed internal medical residency training, chief residency and cardiology fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2013.
