Felicia Davis, RN

Felicia Davis, RN, works in the Radiation Oncology unit at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. She is one of the latest Vanderbilt Health DAISY Award winners.

 From the nomination

“I am a five-year mCRC patient and have undergone multiple rounds of radiation. Over the years, I have had the privilege of being cared for by Felicia D. Living with cancer for five years is an emotional rollercoaster, filled with high stress and constant anxiety. It is hard to put into words, but Felicia has a unique ability to make everything feel ‘normal.’ Every time she greets my husband and me for an appointment, her amazing smile and warm personality immediately reassure us that things will be okay.

“An experience that perfectly illustrates why Felicia is so extraordinary is when I began experiencing numbness in my saddle area and messaged the office. Within minutes, Felicia and the doctor responded, and my MRI was scheduled immediately. Even more impressive was her dedication to my peace of mind: at 7 p.m. the night before the scan, Felicia was still messaging me to answer my follow-up questions. Her sense of urgency and passion for her patients is rare.

“While many nurses are caring, Felicia consistently goes far beyond the call of duty. Vanderbilt is extremely fortunate to have Felicia. She makes me feel special and supported every single time we interact, though I don’t think she even realizes how much of an impact she has. My husband and I are deeply grateful for her, and we want her to know just how much she is appreciated.”

About DAISY Awards

The DAISY Award is a recognition for extraordinary nurses who exemplify compassion toward patients and families.

Vanderbilt Health distributes the award in partnership with The DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 1999 to honor the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, a 33-year-old man who died of complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Barnes’ family was moved by the care they received from his nurses and wanted to recognize them to preserve his memory. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

Vanderbilt Health nurse committees determine the recipients. Previous recipients of the DAISY Award are here. The award is open to all licensed nurses, and anyone can nominate — including co-workers, patients and their families.
