Alex Diamond, D.O., MPH, has been elected to a three-year term on the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness.
The 11-member Executive Committee is a panel of sports medicine experts tasked with developing educational programs, policy statements and reports related to youth sports and fitness.
The Council supports and encourages optimal and safe physical activity in the pediatric population and ensures that pediatric providers are prepared to provide the highest level of sports medicine guidance and care for their patients.
Diamond is assistant professor of Pediatrics and Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation and medical director of the Program for Injury Prevention in Youth Sports (PIPYS) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He also serves as a team physician for Vanderbilt University, the Nashville Predators and Nashville Sounds and Metro Nashville Public Schools.
“I’m extremely honored to serve in this capacity and appreciative of the support and mentorship my colleagues here at Vanderbilt have provided to me. Promoting physical activity and creating a safe and fun environment for youth sports is something I am very passionate about,” Diamond said.
In April, Diamond also gave three presentations at the International Olympic Committee World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport.
Held every three years, the conference is the premier international forum for sports medicine and brings together the world’s top experts in the field.
“Being able to collaborate and share ideas with injury prevention and sports medicine leaders from across the globe was a fantastic experience,” Diamond said.
“I look forward to incorporating what we learned into our programs, and it’s exciting to know others will do the same with what we have developed and discovered here at Vanderbilt.”
