Joshua Denny, M.D., M.S., and Consuelo Wilkins, M.D., MSCI, will discuss the potential of “precision medicine” during the next Vanderbilt Cutting-Edge Discovery Lecture on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Their presentation, titled “Propelling precision medicine and its promise of health equity,” will begin at 4 p.m. in room 208 Light Hall. Sponsored by the Office of the President and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), the talk is part of the Flexner Discovery Lecture series.
A fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics, Denny is director of the Vanderbilt Center for Precision Medicine, VUMC’s vice president for Personalized Medicine, and professor of Biomedical Informatics and Medicine in the School of Medicine.
He directs the Data and Research Center of the federal All of Us Research Program, formerly the Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program, which is recruiting a million or more Americans for a landmark study of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that affect their health.
Wilkins is executive director of the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance and associate professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt and Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
She co-directs the Vanderbilt-Meharry Community Engaged Research Core and recently was appointed to a national committee charged with determining how best to return to research participants the results of studies of their blood and other bio-specimens.
