Benjamin French, PhD, professor of Biostatistics and director of graduate studies for the department, has been elected to the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) for a six-year term.
Chartered by Congress in 1964, the NCRP provides scientific analysis and recommendations concerning radiation protection.
French has also served as an expert in radiation epidemiology and biostatistics on committees for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine; the U.S. Department of Energy; and the Radiation Effects Research Foundation.
French’s research interests include statistical analysis methods for longitudinal and survival data (with focus on exposure-outcome associations), cardiovascular disease, cancer epidemiology, and health economics. He has been the statistical editor for JAMA Pediatrics since 2013.
French received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and Norwegian from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and a PhD in biostatistics from the University of Washington in Seattle. He joined VUMC in 2020.
