Alumni Letter

Sarah Creekmore Woodall

2025 marks a significant milestone year for our Vanderbilt Medical alumni! This past April, we welcomed nearly 400 alumni and guests back to Nashville to celebrate the Sesquicentennial of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Additionally, this fall, we will commemorate 100 years of medicine at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center campus.

A highlight of our spring anniversary weekend was the “Then & Now” tour, which showcased our new medical school building within the Annette and Irwin Eskind Family Biomedical Library and Learning Center, the amphitheater in Medical Center North, and the original doors of our school in Chapman Quadrangle. It was a joy to hear so many stories and memories from alumni of all ages during the tour. We reflected on the groundbreaking design of our school back in 1925, which seamlessly integrated classrooms, research labs and clinics — an innovative approach that continues to inspire our legacy, as highlighted in this edition’s featured work.

We are now just a month away from our annual School of Medicine Reunion celebration, honoring classes ending in -0 and -5. Our Senior Associate Dean for Health Science Education, Donald Brady, MD, will deliver a presentation on a century of medicine at VUMC, and we will celebrate our Distinguished Service Award recipient, Jonathan Perlin, MD, PhD, president of the Joint Commission. We anticipate another incredible weekend in Nashville!
