Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital has received certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center from the Joint Commission, a non-profit organization that accredits and certifies U.S. health care organizations and programs.

The Joint Commission developed the certification program in partnership with the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association to recognize vascular neurology programs that meet the core requirements of three main components: standards, clinical practice guidelines and performance measurement.

According to the Joint Commission website, the Primary Stroke Center certification is awarded to hospitals that provide “the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.”

“We appreciate everyone who has contributed to this work over the last two years, leading to our successful certification from the Joint Commission in Advanced Primary Stroke care at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital,” said Niki Eichenseer, MSN, RN, Director of Quality, Safety and Risk Prevention at VTHH. “The regional and system level support our team has received during this process has been incredible and demonstrates the continued growth in collaboration across the system.

“This certification is a wonderful accomplishment and showcases the excellent care our staff provide to our patients every day. It also provides the VTHH community world-class care close to home.”

Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital joined the network of Vanderbilt Health regional hospitals in 2021, and has since received numerous accreditations, placed highly on industry lists for various aspects of patient care and become a pillar of the Coffee County community.

“I’m incredibly proud of all our clinicians and staff who helped achieve this designation,” said Rich Ellis, FACHE, President of VTHH. “This accomplishment represents years of effort, which our team will continue going forward. It also demonstrates our commitment to delivering high quality, evidence-based stroke care for our patients.”
