Vanderbilt Health has been recognized for the seventh consecutive year by the American Association for Men in Nursing as one of its Best Workplaces for Men.
One of three centers recognized for this achievement, Vanderbilt Health was honored at the 51st Annual American Association for Men in Nursing conference on October 16.
To be considered for recognition, medical centers must submit a comprehensive application demonstrating a commitment to men in nursing through intentional growth strategies such as providing wellness initiatives, parental leave, and continued education opportunities through tuition assistance.
Ensuring the teams caring for patients reflect the populations they serve is a critical component of delivering well-rounded, high-quality care. The population of male nurses at Vanderbilt Health continues to grow every year, now representing 13% of the overall nursing workforce and approximately 18% of advanced practice providers.
Russell Kunic FNP-BC, NE-BC, Associate Nursing Officer, Adult Urology, joined Vanderbilt in 2003, progressing in leadership and mentoring throughout his career.
“Vanderbilt Health has been very supportive in helping employees grow their careers, and our professional options are only limited by our imagination and our desire to achieve it,” he said. “This support has allowed me to grow my career from a nurse practitioner to becoming an associate nursing officer and advise other male nurses in their career goals.”
Male nurses at Vanderbilt Health are engaged in a wide range of professional advancement initiatives and groups, including advancing evidenced-based practices and nursing research, chairing nursing staff bylaws and shared governance committees.
“Being recognized for seven consecutive years reflects more than an award; it represents our commitment to building a nursing workforce that truly mirrors the communities we serve,” said Bryan Dejanovich MMHC, MBA, BSN, Senior Director, Strategic Workforce Programs. “When men see themselves represented in this profession, it strengthens our teams and elevates the care we provide. I’m incredibly proud of the culture we continue to build at Vanderbilt Health.”
