An effort at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) to enhance clinical decision making through cross-departmental collaboration and effective use of diagnostics has improved patient care and saved the institution more than $1 million in 2016, VUMC officials reported this week.

Jacob Corn, Ph.D., a pioneer in next-generation genome editing at the University of California Berkeley, will be the guest speaker at the 2017 Vanderbilt Translational Research Forum Oct. 13 at the Student Life Center.

John Oates, M.D., a pioneering clinical pharmacologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), has been awarded a one-year, $20,000 grant from the Brain Aneurysm Foundation to support studies of the stroke-reducing potential of acetaminophen.

Craig Lindsley, Ph.D., co-director of the Vanderbilt Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery, has been honored by the University of Kansas with the 2018 Edward E. Smissman Lectureship for his outstanding contributions to the fields of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology.

Kayvon Modjarrad, M.D., Ph.D., director of Emerging Infectious Disease Threats at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Maryland, will be the keynote speaker Sept. 25 at a forum entitled “Global Health at Vanderbilt.”
