Eavey to step down from Otolaryngology leadership roles
Nov. 12, 2020—Roland “Ron” Eavey, MD, SM, Guy M. Maness Professor and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, will be stepping down from his position as the department’s leader at the end of the academic year.
VUMC to acquire Tennova Shelbyville and Tullahoma Hospitals from Community Health Systems, Inc., and partner with Tennova Clarksville Hospital
Sep. 30, 2020—Leaders of Vanderbilt University Medical Center announced plans to purchase Tennova Healthcare-Shelbyville and Tennova Healthcare-Harton hospitals from subsidiaries of Community Health Systems Inc. (CHS). At the same time, VUMC will acquire minority ownership in CHS’s Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville hospital.
Stead to step down from Chief Strategy Officer role after decades of remarkable contributions

May. 12, 2020—Scott McCarver, MHA, Chief Operating Officer for Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital, has taken the position of Chief Operating Officer at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital (VWCH). Jim Hayman, MS, MBA, who has served as Chief Pharmacy Officer for Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital and Clinics for the past 12 years, will serve as the hospital’s interim Chief Operating Officer.
Erik Hess named new Chair of Department of Emergency Medicine
May. 7, 2020—Erik Hess, MD, MSc, professor and interim chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, has been named the new chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He will join the faculty on July 1.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center announces plans for new Rutherford region hospital
Apr. 20, 2020—As part of a multi-year regional growth plan for the Vanderbilt Health system, Vanderbilt University Medical Center has filed a public notice with the State of Tennessee’s Health Services Development Agency and will seek approval to build a 48-bed, 154,000 square foot full service, acute care hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
