The milestone surgery resulted from collaboration and exemplifies a generational shift taking place in pediatric surgery.

Nearly half (47%) of Tennessee children had public health insurance (TennCare or CoverKids) in 2024. This was the same percentage as private insurance (47%) and an increase from previous years of the poll.

Of 38 adults with severe SCD who participated in the study, more than 97% no longer required immunosuppressive therapy one year after the transplant.

The study involved patients of diverse ethnic backgrounds age 66 or older who died from breast, prostate, pancreatic or lung cancers.  

They have identified key research priority areas to deliver a fundamental understanding of appendiceal tumors and to improve treatments and outcomes for patients.

The goal of the research is to determine if this treatment reduces the amount their brain lesion (brain bruise) grows and leads to better long-term brain function.
