Lewis Lefkowitz, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, emeritus, whose dedication to health equity and underserved communities helped thousands of patients and influenced generations of Vanderbilt medical students, died Sept. 26. He was 90.

Students and faculty of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) were informed last night about the death of classmate Zachary Scott Jones.

Anthony W. Kilroy, MD, adjunct associate professor of Pediatrics, died July 25. He was 86.

Paul Auerbach, MD, former chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, died June 23 in Los Altos, California.

Richard Light, MD, professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care, died May 11 from injuries he sustained from a fall. He was 79.

Faculty, students, administrators and friends of the School of Engineering and School of Medicine will hold a memorial to honor professor and mentor Matthew Walker III. Walker was a beloved professor and mentor who developed and taught Vanderbilt University’s biomedical engineering design curriculum and served as the associate director of the Medical Innovators Development Program. Walker died suddenly on April 24.

Pierre Massion, MD, Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair and Professor of Medicine, an internationally known expert on early detection and prevention strategies for lung cancer, died April 4 of an apparent heart attack. He was 58.
