Two Vanderbilt students were recognized for their contributions to cancer research during the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) Annual Scientific Retreat held May 6 at the Vanderbilt University Student Life Center.

From the minute students accept entrance into Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) they have made many life-changing choices. As they navigate medical school and make decisions about the kind of doctors they want to be, the choices continue to mount.

Linda Norman, DSN, R.N., Valere Potter Menefee Professor of Nursing and dean of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN), gave a charge to graduates to “go be excellent” during the school’s Commencement and Investiture ceremonies last week.

In a twist on the usual research narrative, Justin Siemann, Ph.D., who celebrated his doctoral degree in Neuroscience at last week’s Graduate School Commencement, conducted research on patients first, and then moved to the laboratory bench.
