Norrby to deliver Flexner Dean’s Lecture March 12
Erling Norrby, MD, PhD, a world authority on viruses, will present his lecture, "A Foray into Nobel Prizes: The Action Potential, Cholesterol and Maturing Molecular Biology," Monday, March 12 at noon in 208 Light Hall. His lecture is part of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s Flexner Dean’s Lecture Series. -

Panel explores issues surrounding gun violence prevention
About the same time a Vanderbilt University School of Medicine panel discussion on gun violence prevention ended Feb. 14 in Light Hall, a heavily armed young man barged into his former high school in Parkland, Florida, and opened fire on students and teachers, killing 17 and injuring others. -

Partnership enhances eye care for Ebola survivors in Liberia
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM), the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH) and the Vanderbilt Eye Institute (VEI) have joined forces with partners in Liberia to strengthen medical education and increase access to ophthalmology care in the aftermath of the 2014-2015 West African Ebola epidemic that killed more than 11,000 people. -

His hands have flickered across saxophones, guided airplanes and held stethoscopes. With a nimble skill set and a steady demeanor, R. Glenn Greene, MD, excelled in careers that others just dream of pursuing. He was a union musician before graduating college, a physician who helped pioneer echocardiography and a commercial pilot. -

Vanderbilt signs licensing, research agreements to develop new approach to schizophrenia treatment
Under the terms of the licensing agreement, Lundbeck has exclusively licensed rights to compounds developed at Vanderbilt that act on a receptor in the brain that has been implicated in schizophrenia.
