A medical school facility — described as the “most complete of its kind in the South” — was constructed on the corner of Fifth and Elm streets in downtown Nashville. 150 years later, it's a powerhouse.

The Vanderbilt Transplant Center had a banner year in 2024. The number of patients whose lives were saved by Vanderbilt’s heart transplant team far surpasses any previous total by an individual transplant center.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is recognizing 581 clinicians and 148 clinical areas for receiving high marks from patients, earning Excellence in Patient Experience awards for fiscal year 2022.
