The Vanderbilt Diabetes Research and Training Center is celebrating its 49th year of continual operation with the five-year competitive renewal of a $10.9 million grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health.

Vanderbilt recently hosted the National XLH (X-linked hypophosphatemia) Day, and more than 200 patients and families attended.

Maureen Gannon, PhD, professor of Medicine, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, and Cell and Developmental Biology, is the recipient of the 2022 Lois Jovanovic Transformative Woman in Diabetes Award presented by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

A treatment that increases levels of lipid signaling molecules reduced adipose tissue inflammation in obese adults, suggesting this pathway may be a valuable target for modulating fat and systemic inflammation.

Vanderbilt's Michael Fowler, MD, associate professor of Medicine in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, a celebrated Master Clinical Teacher, and co-medical director of the Shade Tree Clinic, died Feb. 20. He was 49.
