Executive Chief Nursing Officer Marilyn Dubree, MSN, R.N., delivered the 2015 State of Nursing Address to a full audience in Light Hall on May 14 as a part of Nurses Week, an annual occasion to celebrate nurses. It was a time to assess where Vanderbilt Nursing is today, and where it’s going.

Over the last year, 21 nurses at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH) have received certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the result of a successful push to certify more nurses.

A nurse practitioner at the Vanderbilt Hereditary Cancer clinic is expected to be one of the first nurses in the country to receive a newly created certification in Advanced Genetics Nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Two longtime Vanderbilt nurses are starting the year in new leadership positions with greater responsibilities for nursing education and advanced practice, respectively.

On Jan. 9, the Magnet Education Committee officially launched its efforts to help the Medical Center once again obtain Magnet recognition, the highest honor for nursing.

Darlene McCormick, R.N., a nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt University Hospital, has been awarded the Frontline Impact Award for her project, “Reducing the Duration of Central Lines.”
