Annual sporting event benefits Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

The Ellis Island Medals of Honor rank among the nation’s most renowned awards, officially recognized by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, with each year’s recipients listed in the Congressional Record.  

The Grace P. Ford Scholarship, established in 2005 by the Clarksville Volunteer Auxiliary, has awarded more than $337,000 in scholarships to students who have volunteered at the hospital.

The findings come from the latest analysis of the Vanderbilt Child Health Poll fielded annually by researchers at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt — and again show a persistent trend of food insecurity among Tennessee families.

Four open-heart operations later, Eden is now in second grade and bubbling with ebullient energy. To honor the lifesaving compassionate care she received at Monroe Carell, her parents established a fund in her name, as Elisa Hill put it, “to be for another family what others were for us.”

As the depot enters its second year, VCH remains committed to expanding access to donor breast milk for the region’s most vulnerable newborns.

The funding will expand the lab’s work to improve the development of preterm infants through the therapeutic power of music.
