Superstar vocal group Rascal Flatts to host Celebrity Golf Classic benefiting Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt

Annual event set for Oct. 9

Superstar vocal group Rascal Flatts is joining with WME and Delta Dental of Tennessee to host the second annual celebrity golf tournament to benefit Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Rascal Flatts’ Celebrity Golf Classic, sponsored by WME, Delta Dental of Tennessee and Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse, is set for Monday, Oct. 9, at the Golf Club of Tennessee.

This community event, now in its second year, features the unique opportunity for up to 30 teams to be matched with a celebrity teammate for a day on the golf course. All proceeds will support research and fellowship training in the Division of Pediatric Urologic Surgery in the Section of Surgical Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Rascal Flatts members Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney are longtime supporters of Children’s Hospital. The multi-platinum recording artists have performed for Children’s Hospital patients for 11 years and have helped raise millions of dollars for the hospital, which renamed its Pediatric Surgery Center to The Rascal Flatts Surgery Center in 2010.

“Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital has always been an organization close to our hearts,” said Gary LeVox. “We are so honored to host the upcoming Celebrity Golf Classic and look forward to people joining us on Oct. 9 to help support this important mission.”

A kick-off event will be held at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse on Sunday, Oct. 8, and will include a cocktail supper, silent auction and live entertainment with surprise guests.

“We are so excited to have Rascal Flatts leading this event and are immensely appreciative to them for their ongoing and steadfast dedication to Children’s Hospital,” said John W. Brock III, M.D., Surgeon-in-Chief for Children’s Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Professor and Senior Vice President of Pediatric Surgical Services. “I also continue to be amazed at the level of commitment that the entertainment and business communities have shown to Children’s Hospital. These partnerships enable us to provide world-class services for children from across Tennessee and around the country.”

Longtime hospital friends and supporters WME and Delta Dental of Tennessee join Children’s Hospital again this year to present Rascal Flatts’ Celebrity Golf Classic.

“When we introduced this tournament last year with WME, we were amazed with the support we received from our entertainment community as well as our golfing community,” said Phil Wenk, President and CEO of Delta Dental of Tennessee. “Rascal Flatts, who are longtime supporters of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, have joined us to make this year’s tournament bigger and better. We’re excited to be a part of the tournament again, so that we can help the hospital continue to provide outstanding care to all patients who come through its doors, regardless of the family’s ability to pay.”

The 2014 World Long Drive Champion, Jeff Flagg, will also be on hand to lend his skill to each team.

“The incredible support we have in this community is unparalleled,” said Luke Gregory, Chief Executive Officer of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. “We are grateful to have so many champions of our mission. Together, we offer hope and healing to children and their families in our region and beyond.”
