Fletcher Lance, MBA, has joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) as Executive Vice President for Vanderbilt Health Professional Solutions.
In this new role, Lance will help facilitate the growth of Professional Solutions Services, a new VUMC subsidiary coordinating the development and management of emerging business enterprises. He will work with leaders of both VUMC and the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network to identify new concepts for business development.
Lance joins VUMC from North Highland Worldwide Consulting, where he was a managing director and leader of Global Healthcare for the past 12 years. As part of his work with North Highland, Lance served VUMC as their client leader for the past 10 years.
Most recently, he worked with members of VUMC’s leadership team to help establish the new Professional Services Solutions business, Vanderbilt Health Rx Solutions.
“Fletcher’s familiarity with our business operations and prior experience as an innovator in a wide variety of health care business settings lends well to the responsibilities of this newly created position. I look forward to his contributions as we develop and launch new business ventures,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, M.D., Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC.
In addition to VUMC, while at North Highland Lance served Kaiser Health, Texas Children’s Hospital, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), McKesson, Cigna, Humana and other clients. As part of his work he developed a unique method for processing ICD-10 code. The “Codes that Matter” was trademarked and used extensively by the CMS during the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10.
Lance also developed North Highland’s Emerging America — a focus on Hispanic health. The approach of this work was to increase health access while reducing disparities by understanding the sociographic and ethnographic needs of the population to provide better access and quality care to Hispanics.
Most recently, Lance has been working on the robotic automation of the revenue cycle. He and his team at North Highland developed a process and approach to using robots to reduce denials in the revenue cycle.
Prior to North Highland, Lance was the chief operating officer and one of the founding members of Qualifacts Systems. He and his team built the company to include clients in 20 states and more than 20,000 users.
Lance attended Vanderbilt University on a tennis scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and later returned to earn a Master of Business Administration degree from the Owen School of Graduate Management.
Also a Vanderbilt alumnus, Lance’s wife, Diane, is an attorney and the department head for Metropolitan Nashville Government’s Office of Family Safety.
