Alvarez named executive medical director for Performance Excellence

Ronald Alvarez, MD, MBA, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named executive medical director for Performance Excellence for Quality, Safety and Risk Prevention (QSRP), serving as a physician leader for quality and safety measures.

Ronald Alvarez, MD, MBA, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named executive medical director for Performance Excellence for Quality, Safety and Risk Prevention (QSRP), serving as a physician leader for quality and safety measures.

“I want to welcome Dr. Alvarez into this important role on our senior leadership team and express my gratitude to him for assuming these additional responsibilities,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC. “As we continually strive to offer our patients the very best care, robust quality and safety programs are the foundation of these efforts. Dr. Alvarez has done an exceptional job leading a physician team focused on our clinical outcomes and will through this new role expand these efforts.”

Alvarez will collaborate with QSRP and enterprise leadership to create improvement opportunities, act as conduit to department chairs, faculty, nursing and operational colleagues to drive performance excellence, and partner with members of QSRP to find areas for improvement across VUMC.

“Dr. Alvarez is an incredible partner and champion in improving quality for and safety of VUMC patients. We are excited to collaborate with Dr. Alvarez in this newly created role to continue driving performance excellence and achieving recognition in many external programs,” said Jenny Slayton DNP, RN, Senior Vice President for QSRP.

“I am keenly excited about taking on the responsibility of the VUMC executive medical director for Performance Excellence,” said Alvarez. “I have worked with the QSRP team for several years in our efforts to drive quality of care and to achieve USNWR rankings. Working together, I know we can continue to enhance excellence in our care of patients. External recognitions will undoubtedly follow.”
